Boxes

Building boxes has been my favourite part of woodworking. Everyone loves a good box; I take it a step further and create masterpieces for you and your loved ones to cherish.

These one-of-a-kind boxes are the perfect gift for the special people in your life.

The Masashi box is inspired by the oriental style of box making, with a pillar-like support on four sides which makes for a very delicate box.

Woods used: Monkey pod, Padauk, Sycamore, and Ebony with an Ebony and Maple edge banding.

Size: 5″ length x 3″ width x 3″ height

Size: 7″ length x 2.6″ width x 3″ height

The Hiroaki Kumiko box reflects my deep love and reverence for Japanese woodworking. Kumiko is one of the most complex and time consuming art forms. The patterns are hand cut, with each wooden piece interconnected at precise angles to create intricate patterns.

This box features the popular Asanoha pattern, which has been in use since the Heian period (794 – 1185).

Asanoha is the Japanese word for the hemp leaf. The Japanese believe that the Asanoha pattern protects those you love, especially children, from evil spirits. It is also associated with strength and growth, as the hemp leaf is strong and grows quickly.
